Crack Artist Journey

When you first see the Crack Artist label, it’s not uncommon to think it refers to drugs. This is no new assumption to co-founders Michael Ghattas and Dionte Noble. The two young entrepreneurial artists – both from Long Island – met at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island and established their creative partnership in 2006.

Crack Artist is, in fact, “The Addiction of Art.” The edgy phrasing is derived from the slang use of “Crack” to describe something out of the ordinary or particularly extravagant.

According to Ghattas, “An artist is a creator, a thinker, and a motivator who devotes his or her life to their craft.” Crack Artist isn’t about being great just in art, but being great in all aspects of your life, while at the same time being unique and different.

According to Noble, “If you like something, you should love it. If you love it, then you should be addicted to it.” That is where “The Addiction of Art” their tagline/slogan came about. It’s loving what you do. No matter of difference in your craft.

The logo of Crack Artist is a pencil. For a student, a pencil is something to write with or use to fill in a scan tron. For the artists, a pencil is an all-purpose tool of the trade. Artist take notes, sketch, draw and erase. When their pencils get dull, they simply sharpen them and keep going.

The Crack Artist creators believe that the pencil represents life. An unsharpened pencil with a brand new eraser represents birth. When that pencil is sharpened, life begins. Everyone’s life comes with obstacles and bumps along the road. We wear down and re-sharpen our pencil repeatedly until the pencil is just a nub, worn down to the eraser. This marks the end of our pencil, our journey, our life. But the art we have created lives on. The contributions we made around us with that pencil – the art we made – lives on forever.

Crack Artist is not just another trendy clothing line. It is not just a clever subliminal slogan. Through its product and message, it encourages youth to be “out-of -the-box” thinkers, realize they have options, and recognize they don’t always have to conform to society. Ultimately, the Crack Artist message encourages an addiction to art, to success, and to having am impact on others – so they can become addicted too.
